Nicole Brewer is a director, educator, facilitator, and proud Howard University alumna whose work centers on transforming theater culture through accountability, care, and liberation-centered practices. She is the originator of the internationally recognized Antiracist Theatre (ART) model and a leading voice in the movement to reimagine how artists collaborate, create, and care for one another.
Brewer serves on the acting faculty at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale and has more than 18 years of experience as an educator. For more than 16 years, she has developed and facilitated anti-racist and anti-oppressive training methodologies that challenge harmful industry norms and offer new possibilities for collaborative artistic practice.
Her work has been featured at institutions and conferences across the United States, Canada, and the UK, including workshops with Shakespeare’s Globe and the University of Cambridge. She has taught at Howard University, her alma mater, as well as other institutions and arts organizations throughout the country.
Known for blending rigor, humor, honesty, and deep compassion, Brewer approaches teaching, directing, and facilitation as opportunities to build more equitable, connected, and creatively alive spaces.
